Loneliness is becoming an ever growing problem and with an aging population and family breakdown many people are finding themselves in this position. Assist was "birthed" when talking to local doctors and the issue that came up time and time again was loneliness.
However, people are struggling in all sorts of ways and Assist began when people from the churches in Cherry Willingham, Fiskerton and Reepham wanted to make a difference in peoples lives. Our aim is to empower people and support people through their difficulties so that they can get "back on their feet." Our remit is very wide and it is very difficult to pin down in a few words all the things that we can do but we are always happy for you to enquire and if we can't help we will find someone who can.
Assist is a free service and operates in Cherry Willingham, Fiskerton, and Reepham plus North Lincoln (Ermine and St Giles) and villages to the North and East of Lincoln such as Welton, Nettleham, and Sudbrooke. If you are not sure if we cover your area please contact us and ask. We provide support to anyone over the age of eighteen years irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, religion, or ethnic background.
We can visit you at home but we can also help you get out and about to enable you to rebuild your confidence.
Assist provides one to one support to people who are lonely; people who are recovering from illness or accident; and people who need help to get back 'on their feet' after a setback in life.
In February 2016 we started our first Dementia Support Group on Wednesday mornings and so popular was the group that by September 2016 we started a second group on Wednesday afternoons. The members take part in table top gardening, seated exercises, singing, card making and much more. They like meeting up to have fun and enjoy the opportunity to talk to other participants in the same situation.
